Lancaster, South Carolina

Lancaster, SC is a small city located within the bounds of the much-larger Lancaster County and is, in fact, the county seat. The city itself is just to the east of the Catawba River and the south of Waxhaw (located in North Carolina), but Lancaster County encompasses everything just south and southwest of the North Carolina border, including the community of Indian Land.

There are about 10,000 residents within the greater Lancaster area. Visitors and residents alike enjoy the city’s quaint, well-preserved downtown business district, an area the city is working hard to revitalize. In addition to popular area restaurants like the Edwards Scott House and shops, the city offers several public outdoor spaces to enjoy like the Bales Ridge Nature Trail and even a few pre-revolutionary battleground sites.

The Lancaster school system is well-regarded and there are over a dozen schools within the county. Known as the “Red Rose City,” Lancaster and Lancaster County have become some of the fastest-growing suburbs of Charlotte thanks to close proximity and more affordable housing options. Particularly for people who work in nearby Fort Mill or Ballantyne, buying a house in Lancaster can be a great decision.
